This musical project began in 2019 with Japanese creative teams based in the UK.

Our initial plan is to create both the Japanese and the English versions of this production.

Creating a story through Japanese distinct cultural aspects of life and death, we realized that the grief of loss is universal and many could relate to it regardless of the background. 

Although the story is set in Japan, this is not the story for someone out there. 

This is for us, all of us. 

The first reading performance will be the experimental trial and only be the text reading without music.

まずは日本語と英語の２言語バージョンを製作する予定です。

日本特有の死生観をもとに物語を構成するうちに、大切な人の死を想う気持ちは万国共通であり、多くの人が共感できる感情だと気づきました。

この物語は日本を舞台にした話ではありますが、そこに暮らす人のためだけの物語ではありません。

これは、私たちのための物語です。

初めてのリーディングパフォーマンスは実験的な取り組みであり、音楽なしの本読みのみを行います。

Synopsis

Loosely based on a true story of tragic events, RAIN is a modern-day tale set in a cafe in a rural village in Japan.

As an aspiring writer of children's books, Aoi is perpetually struggling to find endings for her stories. She comes to Cafe Orange to write millions of beginnings but fails to write any endings. One rainy Sunday morning a university student arrives at the cafe and changes Aoi’s life forever...
